The collections of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising in Banská Bystrica are in compliance with Act 206/2009 Coll. on Museums and Galleries and on the Protection of Objects of Cultural Value. Categories of collections are created according to the objects’ type and meaning. In the Museum of the SNU, the collections are divided into historical and artistic collections. In addition, the collections are divided into individual categories.
The method of acquisition, professional processing, registration, protection and security of collection objects of museum and gallery value is regulated by the Directive on the Professional Management of Collection Objects of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising. Acquisition of collection objects is a systematic and long-term process of acquiring objects of cultural value for the purpose of their permanent preservation, scientific processing and their subsequent presentation. In accordance with its focus, needs and scientific research, the Museum of the SNU acquires collection objects, professionally treats, scientifically researches them and makes them available to the public in the form of permanent exhibitions and displays.
The Museum of the SNU manages more than 15 thousand collection items, which form a specific part of the cultural heritage of the society. The Museum’s collections that are on display are some of the most sought-after objects.
