National Cultural Monument Kalište

A village burnt down during the war, in which life has not been restored. It was here that the partisan resistance had its centre. A walk along the educational trail or a visit to the exhibition will tell you about it.

Kalište is one of the many villages that were burnt down during the Second World War. From all of these villages, Kalište it is the only one in which life has not been restored. It is located in the Low Tatras National Park at the height of 924 meters above sea level. Nowadays you can find there 2 reconstructed houses, a small bell tower and remaining foundations of the burnt houses. They are a reminder of the tragedy that took place here on 18 March 1945.

An exhibition titled Partisan Republic is open in the 2 houses mentioned above. Additionally, there is an educational trail titled Ako žili Kališťania (How the local people of Kalište lived).
