The Museum of the Slovak National Uprising (SNU) can be characterised as a nationwide central specialised museological, scientific, professional, educational and information organisation with a specialised public Archive of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising, which purposefully collects, protects, professionally processes, scientifically evaluates, manages and makes available documents of museological, archival and gallery value related to the history of Slovak society in the years 1938-1945 with an emphasis on documenting and researching the anti-fascist and national liberation struggle and the SNU as part of the European anti-fascist resistance in the years of the Second World War; while also documenting the post-war political trials, rehabilitation of insurgents and contemporary manifestations of neo-fascism, racial hatred and intolerance.
The museum carries out activities in the areas of scientific research, expert methodology, exhibitions, cultural outreach, education, editing and information related to the mentioned historical events with its own programme of research, collection, presentation and educational activities in the area of its specialisation. On top of that it is a museum with a nationwide scope and international reach.
