60th Anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising
Within the history of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising, the 21st century has brought a multitude of changes. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising, the sculpture Victims Warn was unveiled again in the Reverence Hall. The most radical change, however, was the museum’s permanent exhibition. The brand new exhibition titled Slovakia in the European Anti-Fascist Resistance Movement in 1939-1945 was installed with the goal of incorporating and making use of the unconventional interior of the Memorial to the Slovak National Uprising. This exhibition is the most extensive in terms of themes, content, and materials in the history of the museum. It presents decisive political, military, and social events in the history of Slovaks and Slovakia in the context of the history of Europe between 1918 and 1948. Since 2006, the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising has prepared several successful projects within its new “open museum” philosophy and within the “respect for national history” framework, which have been successfully presented abroad as well. The projects have brought new forms of presentation into the Slovak museology, and to this day they resonate in professional circles as well as in the general public.
