The fundamental mission of the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising (SNU) is to collect, preserve, protect, professionally process, scientifically evaluate, manage and make available to the public tangible heritage (collection objects), archival collections and other collections (written, video and audio records) relating to the history of Slovak society in the years 1938-1945, with an emphasis on documenting and researching the anti-fascist and national liberation struggle and the SNU as part of the European anti-fascist resistance in the years of the Second World War; while also documenting the post-war political trials, rehabilitation of insurgents and contemporary manifestations of neo-fascism, racial hatred and intolerance.
In the area of its specialisation, the Museum of the SNU also provides methodological and advisory service to other museums in Slovakia and methodological and advisory service for history teachers and students from primary school to university. Furthermore, the Museum of the SNU provides professional advisory and methodological services and study materials for international clients, as well as provides assistance in the creation of exhibitions and displays.
The Museum of the SNU is attracting visitors with an increased offer of both traditional and non-traditional activities, of which the most successful are educational programmes, lectures and discussions with the visitors’ active participation, as well as nighttime entries to the permanent exhibition of the museum and cultural and educational events in the form of concerts, art and literary competitions.
